Farewell, Holidays

Yikes, has it really been that long since I made a blog post?

Like every year, the holidays are always the busiest and hardest time of the year for my job. It means longer hours, more stress, and less time for gaming. I'm not sure if this year was really harder, or I'm just getting older, but this one was rough and completely knocked me out of gaming.

My proud Warhammer project is sitting on my hobby desk in the exact same place I left them 3 months ago, and the Infinity campaign stalled as holiday commitments grounded both me and many of the other players.

But that's all behind us now. It's time for the new spring season of gaming to commence, which is one of my favorite times of the year for gaming. Since I vanished the new Dire Foes sets have come out, Corvus Belli has introduced new Escalation League rules, the new ITS season has started, and the planning committee for this summer's NorCon will soon start their preparations! I can't wait to get started.

WarCor and More

Some very exciting news from GenCon about upcoming Infinity events. Corvus Belli has started a new community outreach program called WarCor (short for War Correspondents), similar to Privateer Press's Press Ganger program. After calling myself the Infinity Guy for the last 3 years I finally have an official title for myself and a little piece of paper to prove it!

Through the program I will be able to get discounts on tournament kits and product, so I will be able to run more events in the future.

Speaking of which, Corvus Belli is overhauling the I.T.S. (Infinity Tournament System) with a new season starting later this year. This time around there will be more exclusive limited edition models available as prizes, new tournament scenarios, and a new international ranking system. The scoring for the new ranking system will be based primarily on win-records and on "player skill" rather than the number of events someone plays in, so there will be more opportunities for local players to earn glory without having to play Infinity every weekend.

As I learn more I will post it here, and stay tuned for me to announce the next Infinity Events, which will probably be sooner than I originally planned!

Norcon news, and beyond...

Just a quick post today since I am buried nose deep in terrain. I picked up the prizes for Norcon today, so here are the rewards for the Infinity tournament: 1st place gets a $20 gift card to Matrix Cards and Games and 1250 ITS points, 2nd place gets a $10 gift card and 750 ITS points, and Player's Choice (combination of best painted and best sportsman, voted by participants) gets a $10 gift card to Matrix Cards and Games. Some more exciting news today: Corvus Belli revealed that the new Infinity book will be a campaign guide, complete with new storylines (and stats) for some of the existing characters from the first two books, new sectorial armies (congrats Seth, here comes the Aleph Assault Subsection of S3!), and a new core army. I'm extremely excited, and I will be pushing back the launch of our next campaign to coincide with the launch of the new book, whenever that is.

New Book! New Army?

Some exciting news today, but also a little sad. It appears that Corvus Belli will be launching a new army on August 3rd, and I'd be surprised if this doesn't coincide with the launch of their next book. There are lots of rumors flying around the web about what the new army will be and what the new book will contain. If I was a betting man my money would be on a new non-combined alien race and a book of mission scenarios and campaign rules.

The sad part of the news is that I'm going to put the Infinity campaign on hold until I know more about the upcoming book. Whether this means I'll completely replace the rules I've been working on or just incorporate them, the campaign will still be happening, but not until some time in August.

Still Alive

Sorry about the lack of new posts for the last two weeks, but I've been extremely busy with work. I also ran out of plaster, and spent most of my free time the last two weeks working on the rule book for the third season of Infinity Campaign.

The good news is, things have slowed down a little bit at work and my new shipment of plaster has arrived. I'm also quite close to completing the new Infinity Campaign book, although I need some volunteers to help me edit and proof-read it after I finish. I don't have any new pieces to show off, although I am almost done painting the Apartment block parking lot piece, and I am back into full plaster tile production.

I also picked up a new trick for casting plaster when I had a plaster jam session recently with Joel, of Brush Zealot fame. As a result my new plaster tiles are coming out more evenly sized and stronger, which has got me thinking about making many more of them.

I also just placed some big Infinity orders. The rest of the terrain for the Bourak table is on order from Crescent Root Studio, and I have the last model I need for my demo armies and a bunch of new Infinity counters already on the way from The War Store. Today I also bought most of the parts I need for the sixth Norcon table, a top secret project, from Home Depot. And next week I will be making the most important order of all, purchasing the Large Format Tournament kit from Corvus Belli for Norcon.

The bad news is that next week will be another long week at work, followed by a nice trip to the Bahamas the following week. So I will probably not have very many photos to post of new projects until sometime in May. Even though I have fallen behind in the last couple of weeks, I am still ahead of schedule and looking forward to July!

Welcome

Welcome all!

This is my new blog about all things Infinity, as well as any other wargames that may peak my interest from time to time. Here I plan to post news about my current projects, upcoming Infinity events for Redding, and any noteworthy news worth sharing. I will also use this as a space to post battle reports and campaign news as they come up, in place of using reddinggamer.com
